Skeleton racing is a high-speed sport in which competitors race head-first down an ice track at speeds reaching 135 kilometers an hour. A native of Russell, Manitoba, Jon Montgomery lives and trains in Calgary. Last season (2007/08) Jon earned one gold, two silver and one bronze medal on the World Cup Circuit, won his second Visa National Title in a row, and was ranked second in the world by the sport’s governing body, the Federation Internationale de Bobsleigh et de Tobogganing (FIBT).
